“Behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it:”Rev. 3:8
We have this open door in front of us continually. No one can shut it, not even
ourselves. It is the door of opportunity, purpose, accomplishment. It is the door to life in Christ, set before each of us. It invites, it welcomes, it encourages.
But we have to take the steps to walk through it.
On one side is the mortal life, sometimes good, sometimes bad, always a mixture. On the other side is the Mind of Christ, the river of divine Life. As we walk through the door and join with it, our life moves with the flow of divinity. We don’t have to wait for death or anything else to step through. No man can shut the door, nor stop us from going out. We just have to be willing, and to actually take the steps when we realize there is an ongoing invitation.
We are invited to put off the old self and put on our original, God-created self as the image and likeness of God every day. On one side of the door, we may feel alone and confused. On the other side of the door, we understand our place in God’s purpose and feel guided and helped continually.
We can practice and prepare ourselves for this step by choosing to have the Mind of Christ be our mind. This means to begin thinking of the welfare of everyone as being as important as our own. It means actively imagining the world from the standpoint of the Mind of Christ. How would Jesus respond to this situation or that situation?
Mary Baker Eddy devoted herself to this precept. Those who worked with her were asked to begin allowing the Mind of Christ to be their everyday mind. Here’s a practical example of how this was done.
A new worker in her household finished the day’s duties with the exclamation, “And I didn’t forget a single thing, did I?” Later that evening, Eddy called her and said, “Martha, do you ever forget?” She answered, as she was learning to do, “Mind never forgets.”
She was beginning to see things, not from a mortal, separate point of view, but from the divine Mind’s view. This made wisdom, insight, accuracy, and ability available to her that would never be accessible to an unwilling mortal.
The Bible says, “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 2:4, 5
How about you and me? Today, we can consciously commit to having the Mind of Christ. Take steps to see life’s problems from the divine Mind’s point of view. This means to care about what God loves, including yourself. That door is open before us every time we open our mouth, every time we encounter a person or make a decision. Walk through the door and find the Mind of Christ guiding you.
“So to understand the beauty of holiness, the character and divinity which Jesus presented in his power to heal and to save…will compel us to pattern after both; in other words, to “let this Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. ii. 5.) Mary Baker Eddy

I liked the idea that every time we open our mouth the door is open for us to speak with divine Mind’s wisdom.

I appreciate the fresh perspective of this article and Cindy’s invitation to walk through that open door to a better understanding.
